Parrett Relay and a few Halfs

Amesbury Amble

Today was the Amesbury Amble organised by the Long Distance Walkers Association with a range of distances and 6 of us completed the Marathon. A great run with some great views and well run event with plenty of aid stations. Although expensive you can just turn up on the day and pay the £2.50 (Cash Only) and after it is £1.50 for a cup of Tea and a Bacon Sandwich.

The goodie bag was great as well

Gold Hill

Judith Wilson, Richard Dodge and Luke. I was marshalling. very hilly but a lovely day. Uploaded the pics from Luke's phone as mine is an old one with a broken camera. The full results can be seen here.

Glastonbury Festival 10k Race today - six YTRRC runners I believe - Louise and Fez, Rob and Ali, Corinne and myself.

Lovely run, hilly, various terrains, good medal, interesting to see the site at a different time of year and of course Michael Eavis was at the finish.

Parrett Relay

Saturday saw the annual Parrett Relay and we had four teams in it.

Leg 4 Team

Leg 5

From Pete:

The club members for this leg, Lynne Thumpston, Pete Darton, Allen McPherson and myself met up at the Bridgewater ASDA.  We parked with one car space between us and ambled over to the bus station cafe for a well earned pre race tea/coffee.
On our return some muppet had parked his works van in the space between our cars, the said muppet surprisingly was still sat in the van.
The ASDA Carpark isn't anywhere near full at 0840 on a Saturday morning!!!!!!
We then convoyed up to the finish opposite Dumball Wharf where we left one car and possibly some bits from the underneath as the final half mile was deeply rutted.
Then it was off to the start, just time for a quick warm up, a note of the rules? And we were off.
The first five miles to Combwich  has been re-vamped with new paths and lots of hides - a twitchers paradise.  Once through the village it was a five mile slog of gates and challenging underfoot conditions (tufted grass).  We did encounter a herd of cows at around 7 miles.  I was an avid fan of Rawhide in my younger days so that situation was soon dealt with.
So, onto the finish, pleased with my pacing as managed to overtake four people after the first mile.  Then it was a matter of dropping Allen off back in Yeovil before dashing back to Cheddington to watch Steph finish.

From Rob:

Well done to my team (Peter DartonGary Stickley, Barry Harriss, John CurtisTim Howes, and John-Paul Humphreys) in yesterday's River Parrett trail relay race!
As far as I to the could tell we all ran very well, fully enjoyed it and we all appeared to finish in the first half of our fellow runners on our respective leg; Gary came third in his leg.
At the end of the day all of us from the club did very well, we did what came naturally as we (cough, I guess I can include myself here) put in the training, however, my biggest thanks goes to Matthew Driver for organising the entire club.
Cheers guys, I look forward to running with you soon.

Marks Pub Run

MONTACUTE PUB RUN

Tonights pub run from the Phelips arms was cool and clear (not too dark). We went down Wash lane (where in olden days they went to scrub up). We then took the main road to the far end of East Stoke and went down Mulberry lane and Mash Lane. At the far end was Tintinhull. We stopped at the old blacksmiths, went past an ex-pub, and stopped at a standing stone where corporal punishment used to be dished out. The return trip involved going past the Icicle Barn, and back along Wash lane. 6 miles led by Phil. Good one again.
